This mixing was first started by Wally Cochran in Australia in the 1970s. The breeder was prompted to do this by a blind woman who suffered from allergies to dogs. As a result an excellent companion for allergic people appeared. Animals of this breed are compact, neither exceptionally boxy nor long bodied. They are graceful in movement and with vivacious expression. Coat should be of even length over body, on legs, neck, tail and head. Possible coat colors are: chalk, red, cream, apricot/gold, chocolate, café, apricot cream, black and silver.

Originally, this breed appeared as a result of a Labrador retriever and a poodle mix. Canines of this breed combine intelligence, aloof nature, the delicate frame, and the low-allergy, and non-shedding characteristics of the poodle with the boisterous exuberance, lovability, and loyalty of the Labrador. Animals of this breed should be socialized from an early age. The breed also needs constant and consistent grooming. From whatever source you are buying a puppy of this breed, be sure to check its breeding history to look for these common breed's disorders, such as hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, hypothyroidism, retinal atrophy and patella luxation.
